An Interfaith Conference: Do We Need Organized Religion?

Is being good not good enough?  This was the underlying question throughout the conference.  As I continue to search the realities of my existence, many paths present themselves to me.  Such was the path of enlightenment found at this conference.  I find myself marveling at new found knowledge.

The conference featured five religions of which I will relate my "take away" and new found information as presented by each presenter and how they interpreted the topic and answered the question.

1.  Hindu - Organized religion is essential for elevating man.  Public behaviors corrupt therefore there's a need for external enforcement. Acts shaped by religion acts as a citadel with every act committed to please God. It leads us to a God realization.

2..  Judaism - Religion involve community.  No celibacy, no hermit.  Religion is not something you do
alone. Religion creates one's values, actions, and behaviors.  It is the context for ethical behavior.

3.  Christianity -  Organize religion gives us values and promotes justice.

4.  Secular Humanism - Absolutely science based.  In a survey Atheism was rated by Americans as below all other so call minority groups. Atheist do not believe in in organized religion and discredit it by examining all religious claims both miracle and non-miracle, such as Immaculate Conception and the Resurrection.  Teaching of Gandhi and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. are closer to what an Atheist beliefs. Learning from trial and error leads to lots of regard for others will guide us to positive source of good. Do not do unto others what is hateful to you.

5.  Islam - Religious knowledge is evolution of God; science is evolution of God's creation.  It is a matter of ceremony versus spirituality.  Every faith was initiated by God.

The above notations were bits and pieces of a five course meal worthy of an hungry soul.  I wish you peace and love!
